I was honestly surprised to hear his death, i didnt like the guy’s political views neither his newspaper Al-Akhbar, but i enjoyed reading his articles.

Here is a small brief on his life.

From Naharnet:
The syndicate of Lebanese journalists announced the death of al-Akhbar daily chief editor Joseph Samaha in a heart attack Sunday.
Samaha, according to the statement, passed away in London earlier in the day.

Samaha had co-founded the daily as-Safir in the early 1970s as well as the pan-Arab daily al-Hayat later.

He was appointed editor in chief of the newly published al-Akhbar newspaper last year.

Samaha was a famous columnist, reputed for his leftist-secular views.

His body will be flown to Lebanon for Burial. No date was set for the funeral.

Samaha, under the headline “Tuning of moves and slogans” criticized Saturday both factions of the Lebanese crisis, urging them to review their action plans.

Ethiopian Millenium Gift Project

February 6, 2007 at around evening time

I dont know how i ended up reading about this project, but it really got my attention and i really think it is a very smart idea and i wish the Lebanese lobby would come up with such plans for our youth, i mean we dont lack education or computers, but we do lack job opportunities and have lousy salaries, and i am sure we can come up with a thousand ideas if we think about it, but no lets fight and beat each others up outside and inside Lebanon, thats how it should be done !@@#@!

The objective of EMGP is to build the capacity of Ethiopia to provide effective educational tools and solutions to Ethiopian children.

Why Millenium ? Because they have some unique calendar for them and the year is still 1999 in Ethiopia right now, the millenium will be celebrated on September 11th 2007 ( 9/11 ironically).

There are about 1.5 million Ethiopians living abroad. Most of those Ethiopians are educated and could help in many ways. Out of those Ethiopians with the most conservative estimate about 100 000 will be celebrating the Ethiopian millennium in Ethiopia.

What The Millennium Gift Project does?

This project organizes a massive localization and translation project with the participation of all capable Ethiopians, free and open source software developers, institutions such as universities and colleges. Helping with organizing, coding, translating, identifying recipients and donors and contributing money.

The millennium gift project prepares a gift of one OLPC computer by one travelling Ethiopian for one Ethiopian child\class to be presented for the millennium celebration.
