Long gone are the days when I could see the sea, the Kuwait towers, the Liberation tower and other well-known landmarks in Kuwait from my bedroom window. I live less than a block away from the sea and can barely get a glimpse of the sea. When I look out today, all I am capable of seeing are concrete buildings that come up quicker than a person’s mind can absorb. Less than two years ago, I had a view. Honestly, I could care less about the view from my bedroom window now.

What my little mind wonders about is with the rise of all these concrete buildings, why can I not find an apartment for myself? What is so difficult to understand is why do these new apartments resemble sardine boxes? How do these landlords and architects believe a 3m x 3m bedroom is enough for someone to stay in? How do they believe that living rooms should not be larger than 7m x 4m (the largest I have found so far)? Now here is the tricky question: How do these landlords believe that tiny 2 bedroom apartment in some alley, which does not have parking space for it’s occupants, is worth KD 550/- per month not including electricity, water or maintenance??

My dear readers, long gone are the days when I had a view, but also, long gone are the days of extremely spacious 3 bedroom apartments for ONLY KD 350/- a month including underground parking for 2 cars, electricity, water, and maintenance.

D.D.13

I know I haven’t updated my D.D. posts recently but it just have been so hectic.
I can safely say that I stuck to the diet on day 10. As for day 11, since it was a friday, I called it a day off and had a cinnabun at night when waiting at the airport for a friend. On day 12 I also stuck to the diet.

D.D.13 is a nightmare!

I had a greasy chicken sandwich, fries and coke for lunch. Drunk lots of coffee and smoked a lot more than I have during the past few weeks. I almost finished my pack. I also had the Toffee Nut Delight at Casper & Gambini’s which really is chocolate icream, cold coffee, and chocolate chip cookies (i think these are the proper ingredients).

I am trying to be better today, which is D.D.14. My weight for the past 3 days has been 64 Kg which means I have lost 1KG is the past 13 days. Noting that I did not exercise, did not eat healthy, only made a small effort, I think 1Kg is reasonable.

I would be content if I drop to 60 Kg by Eid El Fitr which is around 6 weeks away and the additional 3 Kg by new year’s. Once the weather improves (expected mid-September) I will start to jog 3 times a week.

We prostitute in Cannes

This news has been circulating for days. Rumors have been going around on who has been arrested including extremely popular names from Lebanon. I don’t want to mention them here since they are rumors so far. According to the article in the Dailystar , the prostitutes caught are mostly former models and contestants from Lebanon and other countries such as the U.S. and Venezuela. The “pimp” is a famous Lebanese model agency boss. The clients were mostly Middle Eastern aristocrats and businessmen. A night would cost up to $40 000. Also, according to the authorities this has been going on all summer.

Car found

Our accountant’s car got stolen from under his house a couple of weeks ago. It is an old Caprice from the 80s. He was happy and sad that it got stolen. Sad because… erm well it’s his car that got stolen and from right under his house and he never thought the cops would find it. He was happy because now he has an excuse to buy a new car. Well, the cops called him last night. The car was found near the Farwaniya fire station. Now the situation is full of mixed feelings. Glad the car was found, but who used the car the past few weeks? How did they use it? What did they do in it? Feelings of disgust.

Egyptian Break

I just saw an ad on Orbit for an Egyptian TV series (Al Dali) where they used Prison Break’s theme song as the background music.

*shudders*

I am an ogre!

I woke up this morning with a swollen eye! Apparently my right eye is infected! I had to spend the day in sunny Kuwait avoiding all light (!!!) and was only able to work on a computer with my sunglasses on. I have been given eye drops and a lotion for my eye. I hope it will cool down by tomorrow morning.

I would like to thank my left eye for working extra hard today trying to cover up for my right eye. :D

D.D.9

10:00 am turkish coffee
11:30 am smoked a cigarette
12:30pm turkish coffee
1:30pm glass of water
2:00pm glass of water
3:30pm turkish coffee and cigarette
5:00pm cigarette
7:00pm 2 lahm b3ajeen, diet coke, french bread with eggs (have no clue what its called)
10:00pm 3 cigarettes, alaskan milky way @ caspers and a bite of apple tart with ice cream

Weight: KD 64.4 (dropped KG 0.6)
Skin has also improved
Neither do I or my clothes stink of smoke
I feel lighter.

I didn’t make much of an effort these past 9 days. I controlled my smoking and coffee drinking. During the past few weeks (since before this experiment) I have cut smoking from a pack a day to 5 to 10 cigarettes a day. I avoided coke and alaskan milky way.

An accomplishment I did this week that I thought I could never achieve is that I joined a colleague at Johnny Rockets (a place whose burgers, onion rings, and milkshakes I was addicted to) and did not eat there. I actually did not eat out for a week (I did yesterday and today).

I think I can gradually do this.
