In 15 days I will be on a 5 day vacation in Jordan. The main event I will be attending is Distant Heat. I am also most definitely looking forward to lazying around by the pool and feeling the warmth of the sun (I am in desperate need for a tan… 2 people have told me that I must be the only white person left in Kuwait). I want to do a bit of sight seeing as well. I have never been to Aqaba or Wadi Rum. I have previously visited Amman, the Dead Sea, Petra, and Mount Nebo. Great thing about this trip is that I am going with my friends so we’re going to rock the place! (do people still say that?)
Distant Heat Annual Event: (from their website)
Distant Heat is a dance festival that takes place in the desert of Wadi Rum, a most unique venue for a party of this kind with the backdrop of the magnificent Jordanian desert terrain …
The annual festival takes place every last Thursday of July with an all night party hosting top international and local electronic dance music artists. The event includes optional camping on location with various entertainment and activities until sunrise …
The event continues the next day with a schedule of beach/pool parties at the Red Sea resort town of Aqaba, 40 kilometers away.
Distant Heat started five years ago with an idea to bring people together in a magical setting so they can experience positive vibes through electronic dance music.
The event’s main focus is to heighten awareness of Jordan as a peaceful destination and to provide the youth of Jordan with events in par with international scenes.
In these troubled times when terrorism sometimes appears to be gaining the upper hand, partying can be viewed as a political act!
My children were so impressed by what they saw in Jordan that they will be touring there again sometime this year.
If you and your friends could nip across the border they could enjoy some great international music and dance events. For example, Music of the World festival and Momix or Coolooloosh with its Happy Hour from 15.30.every day July and August.
Regarding your new found happiness with your soul mate, that is very precious,so nurture your relationship, and you will both be rewarded.
Yeah Distand Heat’s supposed to be AMAZING.
In Wadi Rum, do a jeep tour and see as much as you can (i suggest petramoon tourism - petramoon.com).
However, depending on how finicky you are in regards to sleeping arrangements, check out baitali.com and jordanjubilee.com and the million and a half wadi rum-specific sites.
And don’t forget that the Jerash Festival is going to be going on as well (but like, 4 hours away, lol)(jerashfestival.com.jo).
However, as with every event in the sun, drink water every 20 minutes, re-apply your sunblock, and cover your head (dharbat shams).
Yay Jordan!
Umm I know what distant heat is, but for some reason I read the title and thought of a woman having hot flashes!
Purgatory….funny!
Sonia: unfortunately we cannot cross the border. Someday though… someday I want to visit Jerusalem.
Archeology Uncovered: thanks for the tips! will write them down!
Purgie: erm… ok
Yes, I know that what I suggested is an impossible dream. But let us never stop dreaming.
It really is not impossible. It is possible at the moment but a hassle.
This is mystifying. Foreign passports?
Is it the holy sites you wish to see in Jerusalem?
Before the first intifada (glorious days!) we all had such wonderful happy time in East Jerusalem, shopping and enjoying the friendly and exotic Eastern atmosphere.
My Jerusalem friends had warm relationships with the nuns there who produced magnificent embroidery which my friends would buy and make into cushions, some of which they sold,I think.
Since then, I have been in East Jerusalem not more than three or few times. Once to the American Colony Hotel. A terrific experience. Opposite is a bookshop with an unforgettably interesting selection of English books, and the owner is such an erudite and interesting man.
You should give me a call when you’re here, perhaps we’ll go for drinks or something.
If and when ’someday’ arrives’ I will put you in touch with our friend, a charming tourist guide, whose special expertise lies in the Christian holy places in israel.
Is this a dream…a fantasy…? No matter……
yaaaayyyy…neyelkom…who’s going with u…:P
Sonia, I do have a foreign passport but I have my Kuwaiti residency on it meaning I can’t use it to enter Israel or else I won’t be allowed back in Kuwait.
I was told people enter Israel through Jordan by getting some piece of paper and not having their passports stamped.
If I do visit Jerusalem it is for the Holy sites.
Roba thanks. Do you live in Aqaba?
Maze
you’re going with me… you’re the person taking us all
Sounds like fun… enjoy o tan for both of us, as i am the second “too white o pale” person in Kuwait
Rampurple, I asked around and yes, it is done in just the way you described.
Let me know if you ever put thought into action. You should not stop at Jerusalem but visit Nazareth as well as Tiberius and the many Holy sites here.
Do you know anyone who has done it?
My best wishes for a carefree vacation.
Check your email. I’m in Kuwait (briefly) and may be able to meet you for coffee after all.
I’m envious. I would love to join you and Rampurple for coffee.
